Welcome to the Aaron Watson Update, keeping you informed about Aaron's campaign to be our next City Councilman At large.

Yesterday was a big day. Aaron, with his son Andrew by his side, filed paperwork and paid the qualifying fee to be on the ballot on November 3rd for the Post 2 At Large seat on the Atlanta City Council.

"The last eight weeks on this campaign have been exciting-connecting with my fellow Atlantans and listening closely to their concerns. As of yesterday, it's official! We are in this race to make positive change for Atlanta.

Furthermore, I am delighted that all three of my children have been part of this process. My son Andrew is now an invaluable member of the campaign staff. My daughters Jana and Jennifer have made calls and canvassed, personally reaching out to constituents. It is powerful to see this campaign through their eyes, and conversely, to see the future of Atlanta when I look at them. That is what this campaign is ultimately about, a better, stronger city for the future. But we can only get there by getting our arms around the current issues. By using all my credentials and experience, I hope to do just that on City Council."

Top Vote Getter Collects Key Endorsement

Aaron Watson Receives Support of Weslee Knapp in At-Large Race
(Atlanta – November 11, 2009)

Today Aaron Watson, candidate for Atlanta City Council Post 2 At-Large, announced receiving the key endorsement of Weslee Knapp, who Watson faced in the November 3 general election. Knapp said his decision to support Watson came after looking into Watson's experience and leadership in civic and business activities.

In a written statement to his supporters, Weslee Knapp said, "While Amir is an affable, smart young guy with a promising future, what the city needs now is someone who possesses broad civic experience and a track record of sound judgment. Therefore, today I am announcing my endorsement of Aaron Watson, candidate for Atlanta City Council Post 2 At-Large."

Referencing important reforms Watson made while heading the Atlanta Board of Education Knapp said, "When I looked at Aaron's reform record on the school board, I learned that he voted for a number of reform issues that were not in his political interest, but the children of Atlanta benefited from his decisions." Knapp added, "I believe in (Watson's) candidacy.

Among other civic and community boards, Watson served on the Atlanta Board of Education, Atlanta Housing Authority, and Atlanta Development Authority.

"Because of Aaron's considerable experience as a CPA, attorney in a large law firm, as a small business owner, a father, a spouse, and his previous civic service, I relate well with him and I think he is the best candidate for Atlanta," Knapp said. "I am pledging my support to him and I will do what I can to help him get elected."

Previously Watson received the Highest Ratings of the Committee For A Better Atlanta, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce affiliate as well as the endorsement of Atlanta's Professional Association of City Employees (PACE).

Watson was endorsed by Creative Loafing Newspaper. The paper endorsement read, "…only Watson has the record to back up [big ideas]."

The Stonewall Democrats remarked, "…At a crucial time for Atlanta, this is one candidate who will hit the ground running on Day One."

Aaron Watson received the greatest number of votes cast on Nov. 3 for the Atlanta City Council Post 2 At-Large. Watson has a proven record of public service in Atlanta and he looks forward to taking this momentum into the Dec. 1 runoff.

Watson Receives Guy Millner’s Endorsement
(Atlanta – November 20, 2009)

Today Aaron Watson, candidate for Atlanta City Council Post 2 At-Large, announced receiving the hearty endorsement of Guy Millner, businessman and former Republican candidate for governor and US Senate. The announcement comes as Watson heads into the final days of campaigning before the Dec. 1 runoff.

"I've watched Aaron's career for many years, while Aaron was president of the Atlanta Board of Education, while he was on the Atlanta Housing Authority Board, and on the Atlanta Development Authority board and I long ago came to a conclusion about him: Aaron Watson understands the matters of governance," said Millner. "I'm a businessman and I know effective leadership when I see it. Aaron knows how to take in the facts and how to make tough decisions."

Millner is the chief executive officer and chairman of the board of AssuranceAmerica Corp. Before that he was chairman of the Norrell Corporation for 31 years.

Last week, Weslee Knapp, one of Aaron Watson's two opponents in the Nov. 3 election, endorsed Watson citing Aaron's "broad civic experience and sound judgment." Watson was the top vote-getter in the Nov. 3 run for the Post 2 At-Large seat.

Watson also has the endorsement of Creative Loafing, the Stonewall Democrats and Atlanta's Professional Association of City Employees and received an "Excellent" rating from the Committee for a Better Atlanta.

"It's heartening to receive such support from such a wonderful civic leader as Guy Millner," Aaron Watson said. "Confident as I am about this campaign, Guy's endorsement makes me feel even better about it and I'm determined not to let him or the public down as we head into the Dec. 1 runoff."

Creative Loafing
endorsed my candidacy. The newspaper wrote "…only Watson has the record to back up [big ideas]." The endorsement continued, "…Watson would be focused on policy issues that can transform the city...(like) affordable housing, Atlanta's water supply, sustainable transit options…." They went on to write, "Folks like (Watson) don't come around too often."

I am extremely honored to receive Creative Loafing's strong endorsement.

Remember: Early voting has begun. You can vote today.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Aaron
